Matbokh wa Mataam Dimashki, Jaramana, Damascus
Jaramana, Damascus
Just off the main street in Jaramana (maybe 50 metres from the Hafez al-Assad roundabout), an unassuming ‘kitchen and restaurant’ serving excellent Syrian / Arab food.
The kibseh was delicious, especially the chicken, which beautifully tender, flaking off the bone nicely—cooked to perfection. I think it may have been boiled, but I’m not sure. It was garnished with toasted almonds. The baba ghanouj was good. Too often in Syria it’s overly bitter with too much vinegar, but this was just right. The salads were not up to the high standards, but were ok nevertheless. Also available were maqloubeh and mansaf, which I expect would have been good too. The food was not imaginative, but just very well done.
Between 3 we shared a fair amount of food, and paid 130 SYP each, including fizzy pop and water. Well worth a visit.
